My first attempt at shooting a wedding

We've all been to weddings and have brought our own camera to the wedding to take snapshots but for me this time I was one of the photographers. I was the secondary photographer this time around. It still got me to where the action was.

I was grateful for the guys I was shooting this wedding with. He was so much better at directing everyone into place and positioning everyone properly. Since I'm more use to candids I tend to just use what I have and run with it. Unfortunately it doesn't work well at a wedding. Candids do have their place at a wedding but so do formal shots as well.

What I've learned:
  • Dress shoes are uncomfortable if you are standing around the whole day. Invest in a nice pair of wedding appropriate black shoes.
  • Processing the photos do take a lot time I was off by a week on my estimation.
  • I need more practice with posing people whether in a group or individual setting.
  • The second body was helpful but it wasn't a life saver on this job.
  • A small towel might be handy. The day was super hot and we were setting up a storm.

What was done well:
  • 2x 8gb cards came in handy
  • Eating a big meal before going to the wedding was good. There is no time to eat once you get to the site. The granola bars and bottle of waters did come in handy.

What to work on before the next one:
  • Use my flash unit more but also use the flash well.
  • Work on posing people better and quicker.
  • Get my subject more involved in the shoot. Have to make sure they are comfortable with me taking pictures of them.

Congratz Josh and Myrene!
