Besides some test shots at home, I haven't put my Cactus Wireless Flash Receiver V4s to a real test. After a couple months I was able to at a photo booth that a coworker and I setup. The main setup was a white roll of paper that might have been a touch too narrow, held up by 2 painter's rollers and some clamps. A touch narrow because I would easily fit one person within the boundaries of the screen in the shot but anymore than that would have them overflowing out of the shot. Very diy but it was fun and creative. It beats me bringing out my frame for this. I had the 420ex on a monopod in the back aimed at the screen and a 580ex1 near my camera to the left with a diffuser. The trigger kept up the entire day. The 420ex had a super slow recharge time. Towards the end of the day my batteries on the 580ex1 gave out.
Back home, since I didn't like how the color of the screen turned out I magic wand everything in Photoshop and removed it all and replaced the background with white. Slightly missing some of the shadows. I might go back and redo some of them.
Things to note
- Charge all your batteries the night before.
- A single 420ex didn't have enough power to blow out the shadows casted on the screen
- Babies still move pretty fast
- Heels + carpet + paper screen = holes
