No regrets indeed

I totally forgot to blog on my experiences with the 5d2. Nearly a year ago I had the chance of a lifetime to make a trip out to visit a close friend in Istanbul. I've been using the 5d1 for a year now and have been throughly happy with it. Awhile planning out my trip, in the back of my mind I was wondering if this is the best set of gear I can bring out there and will I regret not bringing better. Sure the 5d1 had pretty good iso capablities when compared to my old 50d but the 5d2 would allow me to push the limits even further. A good buddy of mine sold me his 5d2 with the canon service receipt stating the actuations on it. I was set and to this day I haven't regreted picking up that 5d2.

It became most apparent when I walked into the Basilica Cisterns. No flash and either I didn't bring my tripod or it wasn't allowed. It was dark and there was no place to place my camera to steady it. Everything had to be handheld. I didn't do the place any justice in capturing how beautiful it is but from what I was able to capture I was very impressed with how well the 5d2 was able to handle such low light conditions

Things I like about the 5d2
  • Boost in ISO capablities over the 5d1
  • Live view is very helpful in manual focusing
  • Good to have the 2 sec self timer back
  • Improved dynamic range
  • The colors of the raw file seems more bright and sharp

Things I wasn't happy with
  • AF drive wasn't updated
  • AF still had the same troubles trying to focus in lowlight

Yup no regrets indeed. Had the opportunity to shoot in Istanbul and Hong Kong and places in between, no doubts have formed about its capabilities, just keep shooting with confidence. Even more there is no regrets about getting this body. It is certainly a thing of wonders.

Looking forward to the 5d3 coming out this month. Not that the 5d2 is letting me down in any way but I just really want that AF drive, well the 5d2 AF drive was a downer for me. I still have to decide on which bodies to keep and which to sell back out.
