BlackRapid RS-2 Sport and a Swift Clamp join forces

I frequently struggle with G.A.S. or Gear Acquisition Syndrome and it doesn't help when stores give me credit to buy more things. So recently my credit came in from the X-E2 purchase. What was I going to get for ~$50 in store credit? I could have gotten a UV filter + hood which would have been lighter on my wallet, which I ended up getting the UV filter shortly afterwards for a recently acquired FL 55mm F1.2, the hood was for other lens. So I've been wanting to get a new strap for a while now, I've been using a neoprene one for years and while its been good to me I constantly have to re tighten on a weekly bases, the straps because they keep slipping down over time and I don't want my camera to drop. Its a minor issue as long as you remember to check every time you use it and they are comfortable even during long hikes. I figure with the credit I can finally upgrade to the BlackRapid RS-2 Sport 2 Camera Strap, so far its still light on my wallet but because of my L bracket I would have to screw on and off the attachment piece which can become inconvenient. My solution, to spend more money, a buddy of mine introduced me to the Acratech Swift Clamp, something to help the new strap and L bracket come together quickly and off just as fast.
Here are my thoughts about the BlackRapid RS-2 Sport 2 Camera Strap and the Acratech Swift Clamp
Pros:
- strap is very comfortable for all day use
- quick release is convenient to attached and detach the camera off the strap
- the lock for the quick release provides confidence that the release won't suddenly open
- no more fear that the strap will undo itself
Cons:
- this was an expensive setup
- the quick release and strap adds a lot of bulk to my camera bag, been having to detach the strap from the camera when putting the camera into the bag
What I've learned:
- its so easy to attach and detach the camera that I've been just detaching the camera and leaving it around when I'm sitting. hopefully I won't leave it somewhere in public
- the underarm support strap on the BlackRapid may make you look funny when you are wearing a suit or big jacket, good thing its not necessary to have that support strap buckled in
- switching lens with this system is different from using the old system. will need more time to figure out a best way of doing it smoothly and quickly
I just hope this doesn't drive me to get a new camera bag. Have to get my G.A.S. under control.
