Trip to Istanbul

With the fact that I was going to stay in a hotel and not trusting them to not touch my stuff for the duration of the trip. I had plan to carry all my gear with me daily. I decided to bring my Fujifilm X-E2 with my 35mm F1.4. For this trip I wanted something wider so I picked up an old Olympus OM 24mm F2.8 for the trip. All manual focus and for this lens I would have to hold down the DOF preview button while taking the photo to change the aperture. My only concern for this setup was that the Fuji batteries aren't as strong as the Canon's and if I was going to lose out on shots if I had to manually focus the whole time.
I admit that my accuracy on getting the right things sharp was decreased a little compared to the 35mm but not as much as I had originally feared. For the 24mm you really need to use the zoom in function while focusing to make sure the image is sharp. I didn't have to do it as much with my 35mm. I love the older manual focus lens, these new free spin Fuji lens aren't as accurate when it comes to touch focusing. At my buddies wedding I had a video camera in one hand and I was able to get a sharp picture by using distance marker on the lens. Can't do that on the newer Fuji lens for sure.
Something that's surprised me is that a lot more of my indoor shots were done at ISO 200 than I expected. I didn't think there was that much light in some of the areas where I was shooting. Is this a magical lens? My investigation is needed. I really enjoy shooting in manual focus with this body. How it slows me down and enjoy the process.
My thoughts on the Olympus OM 24mm F2.8
Pros
  • Smooth focusing ring
  • Distance marking for focusing
  • Not free spinning focus ring
Cons
  • Hood is screwed onto the filter which prevents the user from capping the lens when not in use
  • Have to hold down the DOF preview to change the aperture
