I had a little more than a week in London. I was out there for a wedding and knowing the group I was going with, it wouldn't be a photographic trip. The wet and cold weather also made it harder to get out there to shoot as well. I only took the Fuji X-E2 set in my GoRuck backpack and my Pixel 2 XL on this trip. There was the option of purchasing a Leica 35mm F2 but it ended up the VAT refund was too low (13.4%). It was a very good trip with a lot of eating and sight seeing.
I got lazy and for most of the trip I kept the Fuji in my backpack and mainly used my phone for quick snapshots. It was convenient I was already using it to figure out where I was going and slipping it in and out of my pant pocket was a lot easier than taking my camera out of my backpack.
Things got hairy on top of St Paul's Cathedral, the wind was strong and it was cold. I was nervous about dropping the phone while I was trying to take some photos up there. Definitely there is more assurance holding onto a camera body than a thin slab while wearing gloves. At least with a camera I get the camera strap around my neck.
I struggled to figure out where to post my photos, it didn't feel Flickr worthly since it was taken on my phone and I don't normally like to post my photos on Facebook but I still need to put it somewhere so people can see more than just my selfies. I ended up uploading it onto Facebook unedited. Which for the quality coming out of the phone, it is good enough.
Thoughts
- With the cold and high winds its scary holding the phone to taking a photo, a wrist strap would have been great
- Panoramic feature on the phone worked great out of the box
- The camera on the phones have come a long ways
- Really appreicated the IP67 rating on the phone
