I got a Photoflex 32" LITEDISC (Gold/White) like a year or two ago and I wasn't able to use it till now. Sure I've opened it up and looked at it in my room but to see what it would actually do and play with it was very different.
The gold side seemed too bring for the shoot, it looked like it was nearly blinding Steph. The white side was really subtle and perfect for this shoot. I also had my flash with my diffuser on the whole time.
Positioning the reflector proved to be a challenge when we didn't have an assistant nor a tripod with us. I ended up having Steph hold the reflector up herself and we tried our best to aim and reflect the sun coming in from behind her. The tricky part was that it was slightly windy and I'm not sure how well the tripod would have done.
The other issue was how would I position her where her shoulders and arms aren't looking funny or awkward and still being able to reflect the sun just right. As I was playing with the reflector myself I found that the ideal position to have the reflector was about half a foot away from where her reach yet keep posed. Having the reflector too low would create unwanted shadows, having it higher would start changing how she would hold herself.
I feel this was the best shot that came out of using the reflector. Thanks Steph for being patient.

Hey Desmond - great info here. Your shot turned out beautifully and the lighting is pretty dramatic. Enjoy your blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Hey Bryan! Didn't know you were on here too.
